ISO Certification Procedure
The first step towards ISO certification is to identify the standards that will be implemented, which can be found on the company’s website. In addition to this, a complete inventory of all products and/or services will have to be taken by a third-party auditor.
A Quality Management System audit is then conducted by a professional Level II internal auditor to determine whether the company meets regulatory requirements. The auditor must be certified by an accredited certification body and has at least two years of experience in auditing quality management systems.
The audit documents are then posted to the Secretariat, which reviews them for consistency and compliance with ISO requirements. If no nonconformities are identified, an initial assessment shall be issued and the company will then be advised on how to proceed.
If nonconformities are identified, a detailed report is sent to the company and corrective action plans must be submitted within three months. The Secretariat reviews these and once approved, an updated assessment is issued and the company will again be advised on the next steps.
The company can then either request certification or a confirmation of registration with the Secretariat. A Level II internal auditor must conduct a surveillance audit, which is then followed by a final assessment that includes a formal declaration of conformity.
The certification will then be issued and the company may now use the ISO 9001, 14001 or 18001 standard logo.
